New venue: Claramatte Parkhaus.
On view: more than 70 artists from 20 different countries:
The fifth consecutive edition of HOT ART Basel will take place 14-20 June 2010, parallel to Art Basel, taking part of the week that will gather all the international collectors, curators and art professionals in one same site.
New Venue
With the Claramatte Parkhaus as its new venue, an exceptional location in the city center, just steps away from Art Basel. HOT ART will create an important artistic and social circuit between the events. The very contemporary design of the Claramatte Parkhaus coincides with HOT ART's essence and history as an outstanding platform for galleries and artists to exhibit in the international art market. HOT ART establishes itself as a small size fair with the participation of 30 high-profile exhibitors, all carefully selected by a Curatorial Committee. The aim is to create an intimate, agreeable environment that invites visitors to explore the fair at their leisure, where they will find the latest trends and concepts in international contemporary art.
This year Curatorial Committee is integrated by: Sidonio Costa, independent curator (London, England); Julien Cuisset, le laboratoire gallery (Mexico City, Mexico); Fernando Galan, art.es magazine Director (Madrid, Spain); Taiyana Pimentel, Sala de Arte Publico Siqueiros Director (Mexico City, Mexico); and Gerardo Traeger and Eduardo Pinto, Traeger & Pinto gallery (Mexico City, Mexico).
Our list of exhibitors includes more than 70 artist from different 20 countries: Austria, Belgium, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, France, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Italy, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Poland, Puerto Rico, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland and USA. The fair has come a long way since its inception as Balelatina in 2006. Its focus underwent a change when in 2008 it was renamed HOT ART in order to cover a broader spectrum of galleries and artists from around the world, giving the project a more global profile. Throughout its history, HOT ART has carried on its mission of positioning participating galleries and artists, and acting as a springboard towards other prestigious projects such as exhibitions at both public and private institutions or at other international fairs.
La Recoleccion by Grimanesa Amoros
The piece "La Recoleccion" by the artist Grimanesa Amoros (New York, USA) was specially conceived for the facade of HOT ART Basel's new venue. It makes reference to the art fair as a giant dispenser of magical toys, where currencies are exchanged for prizes. It is composed of circles in different sizes made of polyethylene, illuminated by LED lights. The lights will have a sequence that fades slowly and subtly different colors. Some circles have drawings made with adhesive vinyl film that will look like different currencies in the world.
¡§La Recoleccion¡¨ is sponsored by Tequila Jose Cuervo.
