A savvy social network loves to interact over fine food, fast dancing, and fierce fireworks. Our July 4th pool party was the ideal venue for this. Collectors and fun friends arrived from all over the Miami area to celebrate. The sultry summer evening encouraged ice cold cocktails, and skimpy outfits. No one seemed to mind working up a little sweat.
During the week of June 13- 19, 2011, collector members from all over the globe descended upon the quaint town of Basel, Switzerland to view the huge art show. Days were occupied by visiting hundreds of galleries and exhibition booths. Evenings were consumed with pots of steamy fondue and emmental-covered schnitzel.
Thousands of fine art enthusiasts enjoyed a week of depleted pocketbooks and filled up stomachs. The fair is an art feast for all the senses !
The week starting Monday June 13 was a busy one for our collector members as we converged on northwestern Switzerland for the annual Basel Art Fair. Arriving from London, Tel Aviv, Bogota, Mexico City, Moscow, Miami, Chicago, New York, and elsewhere...all art eyes are focussed here.
Nonstop flights from the U.S. to Basel are non-existent, so transfers through London are customary. Nothing beats a 10-hour layover here for a quick pass by Big Ben and Buckingham Palace; shopping at Harvey Nick's and Harrod's; enjoying a "spot of tea"; visiting the Tate Modern; riding a double decker bus; then catching the Paddington express train back to Heathrow.
Friday evening June 10 was a heavenly time for savvy collectors to gather at Miami Beach's hippest salon and newest exhbition space -- SNIP -- to view the latest paintings of Father David G. Russell (pictured in first photo with devoted collector). His latest body of works include densely colored abstract oils and encaustics.
In addition to officiating at Miami Beach's St. Patrick's Cathedral, the artist maintains a studio in Miami's Design District. Although his Sunday masses may save lots of souls, this evening he managed to sell out all his paintings. Red dots are proudly displayed on every frame.
The annual Maastricht art fair -- TEFAF -- is a wonderful time to make new friends and meet old masters. Antiques, paintings and sculptures from the renaissance, and historic surroundings make this an elegant event.
Our collectors had no difficulty traveling to the event and enjoying the imposing works. Here are some fun activities, and a few of their fine art picks...
Three days is just not enough to take in five art shows in New York City. But, our intrepid collectors managed to keep up with large quantities of strong coffee, sensible shoes, and a passion for fine art.
The Armory Show on westside piers 92 and 94 offered overwhelming displays of modernism masters and cutting-edge contemporary. Galleries from all over the world were well represented. The March weather outside was rainy and cold, but our independent collectors had no problem soaking up the excitement.
A premier Miami collector hosted an intimate evening of dinner and discussion in honor of some early 1990 works of acclaimed Colombian artist, Ferdnando Botero. FIU museum director and noted art historian, Carol Damian, was on hand to provide some fascinating insights into the artist's use of bodies and fashion to convey contemporary social messages.
Many bottles of wine and delcious food made the evening even more sociable!
