Happy Rosh Hashanah 5771

ARTKABINETT social network for fine art collectors wishes everyone a happy Rosh Hashanah --the Jewish New Year.

This holiday celebrates the time of creation of the universe. Rosh in Hebrew means "Head"; HaShanah is "The Year".

According to the Jewish calendar, this new year is 5771

Most Jews, of course, believe that the year cannot be taken quite llterally.

The day, however, is  an exactitude set by the Hebrew lunar calendar and the time of commencement is a solar calculation derived precisely 18 minutes before local sundown: Paris 20h02; Bangalore 18h08; Tel Aviv 18h36; Moscou 19h50; Miami 19h15; etc.

At the foot of this page you will find the link to calculate the time in your city to light the candles in observance of the holiday.*

Listed below are all the paintings we can think of which celebrate creation. Please feel free to blog below any annotations or additions.
